Mission for Vision

Located in Shepperton’s library along the High Street, Aurora Rotary have a freestanding box in which local residents can place their unwanted and outdated spectacles. These are collected by the charity Mission for Vision founded by the late local optician, Ian Squires, who was kidnapped and murdered in Nigeria.

After necessary sorting and restoration, the glasses are sent to Africa where in some places there is just one optician’s practice in an area the size of Wales.

Around 200 pairs of spectacles are donated each year albeit among the occasional returned book and the odd chocolate bar!

Public Libraries are under threat nationality so as well as supporting this great charity, there are more folk going through our library door. Winners all round.
